today i hung out with my favorite johnsons!!
they were heading off to their aunts for dinner, and i invited myself along for the visit. on the ride over there, i asked what they were like? would they be mad at me for showing up unannounced? how were they related? etc. So i really did ask questions, but somehow crj and ajj didn't think to mention that their uncle is a UT Congressman who flies home from DC every weekend.... jajaja
i figured it out when they showed us pics of him chatting with obama and i was like - whoa! he met the president??! and the kidies laughed at me.
well since this unfortunate meeting, i have done my research on him and his politics! this guy is one stout republican, and for the most part, I like it - though i definitely don't agree with his 'send um home' stance on immigration... duh
he posts all of these 'cot side chats' - quick little watered down blurbs about what bills he's voting on etc. so named because he sleeps in a cot whenever he's in D.C. saving $1500 on taxes per month. He's recived a lot of media attention lately - more than i think he probably really deserves, but seriously. i shoulda recognized this guy... ha i don't think he was too impressed with his self invited, slouchy guest from ut who didn't recognize her own congressman. It's ok, AJJ took some of the pressure off with his ridiculous jokes that i think were equally unimpressive. Like:
what song do the General Authorities sing when they turn their computers on in the mornings?
..
.....
...
.
Let us all press on
jajaja gooood one ajj. goood one.

Day 11
I hoooope they call me on a mission when i have grown a foot or two
Today i went to the MTC again and it was awesome. the elders were brand spankin new and they were not so good... really struggling and they didn't use their scriptures at all... but they were trying so hard. I know they'll grow a lot.... and hopefully improve...
...but LAST week, i was with a set of sister missionaries and they were so awesome! seriously, i want to serve a mission. they were on fire. so sincere and the spirit was so strong! I told them i wanted to join the church after like, 15 minutes - probably giving them a false sense of success - pretty sure a missions not really that easy...
How could anyone hear the message and feel the spirit and not know the church is true?? I want everyone to know it!
Annie got home from her mission on wed. and i saw her tonight. she is awesome! I want to be a sister missionary just like her! she said it's tough, but that if you just rely on the spirit it's the best experience you'll ever have. next january!!!

Day 10
can i trust you with a secret my dear sweet world wide web??
i think i might have a little tiny crush...
TONIGHT WAS SO MUCH FUN! like seriously though. i was dreading it - maybe thinking about calling in sick. but i'm so glad that we went! dating really is fun!! after 2 successful dates in a row, i'm convinced.
The dance was just liked i had envisioned with people in full blown period attire and a string quartet playing in the ballroom at some beautiful mansion. we went on a carriage ride and had dinner outside in the freezing cold (don't worry, my date lent me his jacket like a perfect 18th century gent). to prolong the inevitable awkward dancing, we played sardines which turned out to be a great idea (gooood one caitlin, good one). my date and i won so we went to hide, and had already scoped out the perfect spot - the closet full of chairs in the corner. But when we went to go hide there, there was the girl in charge with her computer out working on something, and she gave us the worst look ever, like - are you guys kidding me?? I mean, i guess now that i think about it it did kind of look like we were just a scandalous couple sneaking in to the closet to make out... but we explained our situation (mostly just to defend our honor) and hung out in the closet with her. good thing we had a chaperon or who knows what might have happened ;)
we did get around to the dancing eventually and it turned out to be really fun too! better than the deacon shuffle for sure. after a trip to the malt shoppe and an incredibly poorly executed goodbye scene we called it quits and ran into naomi's room to analyze the night.
I think i might just have the best friends in the whole world. i could have had fun no matter who i was on a date with! there are only 7 more weekends - we have GOT to make them count!!!

Day 9
Katie, my rock and example through it all, cracked today!! can you believe it?? she said she was just taking a break from lent and having some hot chocolate. um, is that allowed? well gee, how silly of me, to think i've been doing it wrong all of these years!
But hooray!!! lots of good news about katie - for starters she is coming home next monday! well, home as in utah. but ephraim not springville. to teach at snow college. but she'll be here for her birthday, for the first time in 5 years!! oh hey. i should get her a present...
more good news - ririe woodbury has 2, yes that's right TWO, womens contracts for next year!!!! I'm praying so hard! i want her to come dance in utah. i could go to all her shows and sleep over for the weekends! I could never have imagined something more perfect. ilovehersoOOoOomuch!!!!!!!!

Day 8
why is it the goal of the super evil movie makers to set such unrealistic expectations of the perfect love story that my stomach hurts when i walk out of the theater and 15 minutes later i'm sitting on my couch eating a gallon of ice cream to drown my lonely sorrow and wallow in my hopeless misery?
I just saw leap year - and it was the most romantic movie of all time! seriously. i want to meet an incredibly handsome man with an accent, who's full of tradition and adventure, who takes care of you, and fall in love in some middle of nowhere ancient castle and across the scenic landscape of ireland. uh, yes please!!
will i ever meet my detrick? (excellent name by the way) i'm worried i'll mess up and end up with a jeremy. or heck, at this rate, end up all alone. my life is a tragedy waiting to happen.
BUT the good news is, I'M GOING TO LONDON ON A STUDY ABROAD THIS SUMMER!! it's officially decided. mom's going to help me pay (she's THE BEST mother in the entire world) and so i'll get a taste of the beautiful European countryside myself!
and, who knows, maybe even fall in love ;)

Day 7
Today, my mom told me to stay out of jail. will do mom, will do.
also, the boys answered by writing yes on a paper, and then lighting it on fire and doorbell ditching it at midnight. unfortunately, by the time i got to the door, it was in huge flames and completely unintelligible. then i tried to blow it out and started the carpet on fire... yup i think it's a good sign - this is definitely going to be fun.
tonight, my thoughts are with you benny - get beter little guy.

Day 5
you are hereby cordially invited to attend the jane austen formal ball on friday night.
yes, i sent this letter with a wax seal (remarkalby hard to do...) and burnt edges to jeff tonight with lauren, dani, and katie. what was i thinking? jeff kanady. i hardly know the guy. though he is pertty cute....
As wise ms. austen said:
'next to being married, a girl likes to be crossed in love a little now and then.'
or perhaps a more true quote would be:
'A large income is the best recipe for happiness I ever heard of.'
or:
'A lady's imagination is very rapid; it jumps from admiration to love, from love to matrimony in a moment.'
hey I want to get married!! to a rich man. ooh that would be fun!

Day 4
so last night i went on a date and i'm disclosing all the juicy details exclusively to my online readers forum ;)
it was surprisingly fun! why can't all dates be like that?? seriously. he had a plan, we had a blast, and get this - we weren't even in love, but it still wasn't awkward at all. yep.
so we did an iron chief thing where we chose an ingredient for the opposing team to include in all of their dishes. We gave marissa and darrell pineapple, and they gave us sour cream. we looked up recipes, went shopping, and then we made ourselves a masterpiece! we made:
calzones filled with bacon, chicken, peppers, sour cream and cheese. soo good.
a salad dressing that was kinda gross...
and the most delicious afflecrochen ever!! here's the recipe (although i must admit that i'm mostly just posting it online because i know i'll lose it otherwise...)
1 15oz cake mix - we used yellow
1/2 cup butter
1 cup sliced apples - we used granny smith - peeled and really thinly sliced
1 cup sugar
1 tsp cinnamon
1 cup sour cream
1 egg
Blend cake mix and butter until crubly and press into an ungreased cake pan. bake at 350 for 10 minutes
place apples into the crust, sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar mixture. mix sourcream with beaten egg and drizzle over the top. bake at 350 for 25 minutes. searve hot with icecream. ooh yeah.
seriously so good. AND has no chocolate (tying it back to lent, which is after all the supposed theme of this blog...)
after our amazing 6 course meal we played compatibility. a game that i'd never really heard of before, but i think i should probably invest in - it's the perfect game to play on dates. we smoked old marisssa and darrell, though we came in second to his mom and sister. go figure. but its clear marissa and darrell better rethink the whole getting married thing.... (just kidding. i love that darrell guy and i think they are the greatest couple ever!!)
Ok, so no real juicy details but did i get you to log on to my blog, Lauren???
Take note though boys - that is how you do it!!! not big and fancy or complicated. cheap, super fun, get to know each other. done.
also, this cooking extravaganza inspired me to experiment with other non-chocolate desserts for the next 36 days. like cheese cake, cherry pie or key lime tarts. i've never made any of those.
I think that things are about to get interesting.

Day 3
Lysacek -USA- just beat the only true villain of the winter olympics, Evgeni Plushenko -Russia- in mens figure skating! and so we see that the major victories of life go on with or without facebook. I have never been so happy to see someone land a triple toe loop back glide sow cow thing in my life. I don't know if its the abnormally large nose, the predictable black sequined unitard with silk gloves, or just the memory of his highly suspicious smirk at the last olympic games, but i was so satisfied to see his reign come to an end in the second great cold war - this time fought on skates.
Add to the list of major USA victories - Shaun White, by far the most charming representative of my nation this year in his landslide victory in the half pipe yesterday! seriously, that guy IS the american dream... Or at least he's a dream boat.... nothing beats his incredible lions mane, or his funny interviews, or perhaps, most importantly, nobody beats his 25 feet of air ripping off the pipe or his moves that are completely insane.
Also worthy of note, the snowboardin chick who also snagged gold, and who's also a mormon. well done lindsey!
yes represent team USA!

Day 1
LENT STARTED TODAY!
and i am honoring my favorite catholic custom in my usual way - by giving up chocolate - this year though with the added challenge of deleting my facebook account! it's going to be tough...
Lauren insists on giving me a really hard time for my devout observance, seeing as i'm definitely not catholic myself, but as i've tried to explain to her before, it has lots of benefits! Like for instance, it's a good way for me to take back my life, and be in control. See - i can give up facebook if i want to. and it feels kinda good. Or it makes me look forward to the way too forgotten Easter Holiday! there is definitely not enough hype about this celebration, and though i'm not catholic, I do believe in Christ. AND its all about family. excellent bonding with my mother and sisters who also give up chocolate and we are our support system and gouge ourselves on easter. You see the beauty? I'm just trying to once again re-convince myself....
But hey! One day down. only 39 to go :)
